Hello, December! 👋

We have our holiday decorations up – including some new ones this yr, since we're all staying domicile a lot more – our Elf on the Shelf has made her appearance and nosotros've already finished our first Christmas puzzle.

I'thou all effectually really pretty happy to see the last month of 2020. Not but because I'g ready to bring this twelvemonth to a close, but because information technology really will have lots of fun. It may just be us hanging around, but we've got vacation books, movies, puzzles and more than to keep us busy. Not to mention all the holiday cookies and baking we programme to practice!

Today though, we're talking cocktails.

I mentioned recently with my apple cider mimosas that I am making an effort to become some more fun potable recipes here on Family Nutrient on the Tabular array.

Because drinks are more fun when they are shared with friends, correct?

Also, because it's 2020. Enough said, right? 😂

And even if nosotros tin't get together in person with friends and family right now, we can share recipes, make them together and then chat by video.

My daughter friends and I have replaced our monthly girls dinner with a weekly Zoom phone call. We go to meet each other and catch up more often, visit with each other'southward kids and pets when they make an appearance (the husbands tend to stay away; smart guys) and include our two friends who don't live nearby.

It's been one of the highlights of this year for me, and I call up information technology's kept us all a little saner.

And I'chiliad thinking that having a drink theme for those calls would be a fun affair to add in for the winter!

Outset up is this pretty, flirty lemon drop martini.

And to clarify, this is a martini. This is not a lemon driblet shot served in a shot drinking glass. Though I did take a girlfriend order this beverage at a restaurant once and they brought her the shot past blow. It was pretty funny.

This is for sophisticated sipping, not quick chugging. Or maybe you chug your martinis these days. It's OK, I won't judge.

Now, I've got some notes and tips coming upwards on how to brand a lemon driblet martini. Just tryin' to be helpful.

If you desire to jump on downward to the recipe, simply ringlet right on through the residuum of the text. The recipe carte du jour is most the bottom of the folio, above the comments section.

Notes on making a lemon drop martini:

  • Feel free to utilize a citrus vodka if y'all have one on manus and desire a really lemon-y flavor. Otherwise, regular vodka is just fine. Brand sure it's a adept enough quality though; nosotros don't want the rubbing booze kind.
  • Cointreau is my favorite for this martini, but yous could substitute triple sec or another orange-flavored liqueur if you prefer.
  • Fresh lemon juice is a must. Please don't use the stuff from a bottle in this drink.
  • The measurements in the recipe carte du jour below brand a really well-counterbalanced martini. Even so, anybody has different tastes, then if you lot'd like to suit this (add more vodka or Cointreau for example), experience free! (Same goes for adding more unproblematic syrup if you want to sweeten information technology up some more.)
  • Elementary syrup is super duper like shooting fish in a barrel to brand, hope. I take details coming upwards beneath for you lot on that, only don't permit it intimidate yous. (Although, in a pinch, you could attempt substituting maple syrup instead of the simple syrup. I have heard that can work, only haven't tried information technology with this recipe myself.)

A martini glass upside down in a dish with sugar to rim the edge of the glass A lemony martini mixture being poured from a shaker into a martini glass

Also, you definitely don't need to rim the drinking glass if you prefer non to. Information technology adds a petty pizazz but it's totally optional.

If you lot are going to do a rim, super fine sugar works best, but regular sugar – every bit is or pulsed in a blender to pause it downward a flake – is fine to use, too.

OK, hither's the run-downward on making uncomplicated syrup for this beverage,.

How to brand uncomplicated syrup:

– Uncomplicated syrup is just a h2o-sugar combination where the carbohydrate has been completely dissolved into the liquid.

– To make simple syrup, heat i/2 cup of water in a minor pot over loftier heat on the stove. One time simmering, stir in 1/2 cup of granulated carbohydrate.

– Reduce heat to low or plough off rut completely, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.

– Let cool completely before using. Store extra in a covered container in the refrigerator.

You can make uncomplicated syrups with other types of sugar (I love demerara sugar for my old fashioned cocktails) but I recommend a regular white sugar for this martini.

Simple syrup will shop, covered, in the fridge for several weeks. So yous have plenty of fourth dimension to employ the leftovers.
